Summary: Online technology and design articles around issues of interface design approaches, human computer interaction, computer mediated communication, and other fields where communication theory, UIU design, online marketing, and sociology converge.

The design community is accustomed to using accepted if not proven methods for the complex task of developing the user experience. But what if the application or technology is for use in communication? What if the user experience is not just the computer, the browrser, navigation, and content謡hat if it's the person(s) at the other end?

I think we have a much easier time picturing a technology's functions than we do its social dimensions. These writings are an attempt to explore socio-technical issues. The human factors of technology design specific to communication and interaction.

My aim is to focus on the transformation of human and social relationships through the use of technology. In a way this approach is an extension of user experience design, and should be of some interest to those in the business of applying design insights to user interface designs. But in other ways it challenges assumptions made by interface and product designers. For I think that as much as we may be able to design a technology and its manner of function, we run up against barriers when it comes to doing the same for human interaction. My hope is that we can design by anticipating effects of technology use. That human users "respond" to technology and how it works, as much as they drive it and their interaction. That means we need to outthink and second-guess the user. And integrate concepts of social interaction into the human factors we design to.
