Design and AI

I write AI articles using Claude Code inside an Obsidian vault of AI white paper excerpts. My vault contains excerpts from over 2,500 white papers read over the past three years. They are linked, tagged, categorized, and using the arscontexta.org plugin, cross-linked through 800 topic notes. These articles are an experiment in developing the very theory of collaborating with AI by using it on AI research. The vault serves as my own research collection and allows me to mine concepts and offload writing so that I can focus on thinking, structure, and argumentation.

The diagram below illustrates the way Claude searched through different topics within the white paper research topic notes to write the post for The Reader Who Wasn't Reading. From a single question about how LLMs actually do deep research, to three self-generated research strategies, self-authored prompts, and then research retrieval, Claude wrote answers to the initial question shaped by these distinct lines of thinking.

Conversation is the Medium

An essay for ML and experience designers on conversation as shared context. I work with Claude through research on LLMs to shape an argument that the goal of AI-human interaction is interestingness in the experience.

The Reader Who Wasn't Reading

One research question, three reasoning approaches, three prompts, and three posts. A look at how prompting with different reasoning modules produces posts that make different arguments. Another experiment using Claude on an Obsidian vault of white paper research.

Knowledge Custodians

Knowledge Custodians: What impact AI will have on knowledge work, and on the role and status of the expert? I examine what makes expertise and how AI will reshape how it is produced and what qualifies it.

I have a partial list of the whitepapers I have read here.
